Paper as a medium

Paper is a medium I have enjoyed working with in various ways over the years. Be it for drawing, painting or for model-making. In this post I have explored a few avenues that have caught my attention more recently in the work of other's (along with some of my own examples from my portfolio).

- Exhibition

Caruso St John, Photographer Helene Binet and artist Thomas Demand teamed
together to form an exhibition made from paper and card for the Chicago Architecture
Biennale (even the walls are lined with paper!)

- Film

A film I was introduced to through my Masters tutor, he humoured us with the
details of the production set, which was nicknamed Tativille. It was in essence a large model,
 consisting of paper and it's counterparts. Images from mubi.com

Director, Jacques Tati used life-sized cutout photographs of people to save on costs

Some of the building facades were giant photographs, used to save money! 

The blank sheet of paper can sometimes be a daunting obstacle to overcome, but a lot can be achieved with the medium of paper, depending on what we choose to apply to it. We can create works of art with sheets of paper, we can go into 3D territory and also record movement through it, as demonstrated by Tati. Throughout my ongoing creative journey through life, it has allowed me to personally explore the process of designing.

 I have enjoyed exploring the medium of paper for this post, however I'm now off to explore origami and kirigami!
