We can all aspire to have a successful career, as long as Ando's 50 yr stretch...but not many of us can say we are largely self-taught! He has created a wealth of successful and memorable projects across the world.

His craft is a combination of Japanese architecture with modernism to elevate our encounters with architecture. There is a beauty in his work and the way he interprets the relationship between solid and void.

I recently came across Ando's sketches, some of which I believe were being exhibited at the Pompidou Centre recently. The exhibition explored the Architect's design principles. Almost 50 projects were showcased, across 180 drawings, 70 original models and slideshows.
